ETHOS
Staplechi Chihuahuas are bred to type and standard to improve conformation whilst maintaining a sound specimen and an outgoing and friendly dog.
Chihuahuas are the smallest dog breed in the world but I like to think of them as the cutest, loving and most rewarding dogs in the world. They certainly give all of themselves to their loved ones, which makes it so easy to reciprocate this love and trust.
ABOUT THE BREEDER
My first glimpse of a Chihuahua was in my early twenties & was love at first sight; I knew then that I would have to own one. I did not realize at that time how infectious they would become & how long the love affair would last.
I have been a member of The Chihuahua Club of South Australia for many years now as well as being involved with All Breeds Kennel Clubs for well over thirty years. The Chihuahua Club of SA awarded me with Life Membership in 2004.
This aspect of owning, breeding and exhibiting dogs also has its own rewards.
ABOUT MY DOGS
I purchased my first show Chihuahua in September 1978 from a well-known and respected breeder, Jean Porgand; I started to show in October.
I gradually acquired more quality dogs over the next few years, continued showing, and then breeding, making up my first champion in 1982. This little dog was bred by Betty Thompson and purchased by me to become not only my first champion but also my first stud dog; he was Ch Bettachi Mr Choco Chips.
“Choco” to his friends, then sired the very first Staplechi Champion; Ch Staplechi Camilla, in 1984. He was the foundation of the Staplechi line along with some lovely little ladies from Mary Squire (Bonito), Phil Harris (Donreo) and Anita Wright (Mordosa). I thank these lovely ladies with all my heart; good foundation stock is so important. Their help and guidance has been invaluable!
Now, with the help of my daughter Jenifer the Staplechi Kennel has continued to develop and we have owned, Breed & Shown over fifty champions and four Grand Champions.
Included in this impressive list of Grand Champions are - Grand Champion Staplechi Wild Justice (long coat), and Grand Champion Staplechi Midnight Duel (smooth coat), re-homed to Irene Nicholls; he is now deceased.
We now have Duel’s son Grand Champion Staplechi Midnite Gossip (smooth coat) & Justice’s grandson Grand Champion Staplechi By George (long coat).
We have bred many Best in Show winners, including the above named Grand Champions, and many other Staplechi dogs; as well as winning multi classes in show, groups and Specialty Shows.
We have also done very well at Royal Show level winning both Best of Breed awards at the 2003 Royal Melbourne Show with my young stock, Ch Staplechi Midnite Gossip (s/c) and Staplechi By George (l/c). in 2005 we repeated the double header at Adelaide royal with , Ch Staplechi Midnite Gossip (s/c) & Grand Champion Staplechi Wild Justice (long coat) and again at the Melbourne Royal with , Ch Staplechi Midnite Gossip (s/c) and Staplechi By George (l/c). This was indeed a personal & a kennel highlight!
Champion Staplechi Twice Wild Child and her daughter Champion Staplechi Wild Gossip have also had royal Best of Breed wins to add to their collections.
Staplechi dogs are well loved and treated like family; and they know it!
There are now Staplechi dogs being shown, bred and loved in most states of Australia.
